Ossiomo Investment Cries Foul Over Alleged Land Invasion by Ologbo Chief, CCETC Team
The management of Ossiomo Investment Limited has accused the Okao N’ Eguae of Ologbo Dukedom, Chief Emma Iyase, and officials of CCETC of unlawfully invading its property in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to the company, the alleged invasion — involving bulldozers and pay loaders — occurred on October 29, 2025, on land legally acquired in 2008 from the Oba of Benin and covered by valid Certificates of Occupancy issued by the Edo State Government.
In a statement signed by its Assistant Secretary, Barrister Josephine Oike, Ossiomo stated that the disputed land, measuring a total of 1,511.269 hectares across multiple survey plans, was designated for industrial purposes and had never been communal land.
The company maintained that it has enjoyed peaceful possession of the property for over a decade, with the cooperation of the late Enogie of Ologbo, Prince Eguagie Akenzua. It also highlighted its contributions to the community, including providing electricity for the past five years and disbursing over ₦140 million in Corporate Social Responsibility support within the last eight months.
Ossiomo further disclosed that it had secured over $250 million in financing for a petrochemical project and obtained a Federal Government licence for power generation, transmission, and distribution in Edo State.
Describing the invasion as “land grabbing, unlawful trespass, and damage to critical infrastructure,” the company called on the Edo State Government, security agencies, and the Palace of the Oba of Benin to intervene and restrain Chief Iyase, Deacon Friday Osazuwa, and Hon. Eric Osawaru from further encroachment.
Reacting, Chief Iyase claimed the land belongs to the Ologbo community, alleging that Ossiomo Investment Limited failed to provide proof of ownership despite repeated demands. He said the community had petitioned the police and other security agencies over the company’s alleged activities in the area.
Similarly, the Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Hon. Eric Osawaru, urged both parties to embrace dialogue for peace, clarifying that he was not supporting either side and was in the community on a separate assignment. He expressed readiness to mediate between the company and the Ologbo community to ensure lasting peace.
