Nat'l NLC warns banks against fraudulent change of Edo union account signatories

The national headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has cautioned banks in the country against altering the signatories to the union’s bank account in Edo State.

This warning follows what the NLC described as an attempt by "imposters" to fraudulently change the account's signatories without proper authorization.

In a letter to the bank, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, the NLC affirmed that Chief Odion Olaye remains the authentic Chairman of the NLC in Edo State.

Speaking in Benin City, Chief Olaye alleged that some members of the State Executive Council (SEC) had posed as Chairman and acting Secretary to conspire with others in an attempt to alter the account's signatories.

He named the SEC members involved as Bernard Jaman Eguaghide (posing as NLC Chairman), Awujobi (Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers), and Kingsley Ireoti (former acting Secretary).

Olaye explained that the group was asked by the bank to secure consent from either the "former Chairman" or the national NLC before any changes could be made, but they failed to return.

"I remain the authentic Chairman of Edo State NLC. Bernard was never elected. They are trying to bring politics into the union. The NLC NEC, the highest policy-making body of the union, recognizes me," Olaye stated.

He further emphasized that there is no parallel NLC in Edo State, and after due consultation, Ireoti has been relieved of his position as acting Secretary due to anti-union activities.

Olaye warned that any documents signed by Bernard or Ireoti are null and void, as they are unauthorized imposters.
