Avin Grand Hotel opens in Benin

Residents of Edo State and Nigerians generally have been encouraged to embrace affordable relaxation and wellness options to foster healthier lifestyles.

This call was made by Chief Steven Imade Ekhator, CEO of Avin Grand Royal Resort, during the official opening of the new hotel, located along Saint Saviour Road in Benin City. 

The resort aims to provide guests with a tranquil retreat and a home away from home.

Sharing his motivation for establishing the hotel, Chief Ekhator recounted his childhood aspirations of contributing to the hospitality sector. 

Despite Nigeria’s economic challenges, he urged individuals to adopt creative thinking and invest in their future, while emphasizing the importance of prudent living.

The commissioning ceremony was led by Pastor Azemhe Azena, who prayed for the hotel's success and commended Chief Ekhator’s visionary project. He also called on other wealthy individuals to contribute to Edo State's development.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council. 

The ceremony ended with a ribbon-cutting by Pastor Azena, symbolizing the hotel’s official opening, followed by a guided tour of its facilities.

Court to Issue Bench Warrant Against Defendants in Suicide Case

A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City is set to issue a bench warrant against Jessica Iguodala Oghomwen and Akpes Omorodion, the first and second defendants in a case involving the alleged suicide of Mrs. Lilian Omokhuale, daughter of Omoruyi Oloton, Chief Executive Officer of Uyi Technical Limited. The incident occurred on October 7, 2022. Following a police investigation, several individuals were arrested and arraigned in the Federal High Court, Benin City. The case, marked FHC/B/5C/2004, has six defendants, including Chukwudi Mudiaga, Joy Noren, Vincent Uhunmwangho, and Blessing Jatto, listed as the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth defendants, respectively. During Tuesday’s proceedings, the first, second, and third defendants were absent, prompting strong criticism from the presiding judge, Hon Justice B.O.  Quadri , Judge. CONUA lauds UNIBEN on payment of outstanding honorarium

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA), University of Benin (UNIBEN) chapter has applauded the steps put in place by the management of the University to offset the backlog of money owed academic staff of the University atbthe post-graduate level. The University management had assured the academics of plans to offset the #109 million in three tranches and commenced the payment with #50 million. A statement by the chapter chairman, Comrade Ishaq Osagie-Eweka indicated that "After due Consultation with the National Executive, CONUA, UNIBEN Chapter is pleased with management  understanding that the balance shall be offset within two months.
