APC suspension of Hon. Dekeri Anamero remains valid – Okponeke
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako East Local Government Area, Mr. Peter Okponeke, has affirmed that the suspension of Hon. Dekeri Anamero (Danco), the member representing Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, remains valid until the state chapter takes a decision.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City via telephone, Mr. Okponeke clarified that the suspension met all constitutional requirements, with 30 out of 36 party executives endorsing the decision.
He urged the public to disregard any letter of confidence purportedly issued by unauthorized individuals, emphasizing that only the appropriate party authorities hold the constitutional power to act on such matters.
“All 10 ward chairmen in Etsako East LGA, alongside the local government executives, signed the suspension letter, making it both legitimate and binding,” he stated.
Mr. Okponeke called on party members to remain united and committed to the progress of the APC in the area. He vowed to defend the party's constitution and take decisive action against anti-party activities.
He further dismissed the vote of confidence allegedly passed on Hon. Anamero by certain groups, describing it as a breach of the party’s constitution and an affront to its constituted authority.
In a statement, Mr Godwin Justice Esho, the Publicity Secretary of Ward 6, dismissed the suspension, saying it was initiated by a faction of the party led by Peter Okponekhe, adding that it lacks merit.
"Peter Okponekhe and his associates in Etsako East LGA do not possess the constitutional authority to suspend Hon. Anamero Dekeri," the statement declared.
