NOA launches nationwide campaign on HIV, security, human rights, tax reforms
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign addressing five key issues crucial to Nigeria's development and unity. The campaign focuses on World HIV/AIDS Day, security awareness, the dangers of the get-rich-quick mentality, World Human Rights Day, and the ongoing tax reforms.
Speaking at the event, NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by the Director of General Services, Mrs. Rebecca Nasamu, emphasized the need for unity in tackling these critical issues through collective effort and active citizen participation.
Mallam Issa-Onilu highlighted the Federal Government's tax reforms aimed at creating a fairer and more inclusive system. He acknowledged the concerns of Nigerians, particularly regarding multiple taxation and its burden on low-income earners.
The tax reforms consist of four proposed bills: the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill. These bills, when enacted, will address issues such as double taxation, provide relief for low-income earners, simplify processes, and ensure the visible impact of taxes.
In his remarks, Edo State NOA Director, Mr. Osahon Woghiren, called for the support of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the government’s initiatives.
Similarly, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Andy Egbon, reassured Nigerians that the tax reforms are not anti-people but are designed to improve fairness and transparency in the system.
The NOA’s sensitization drive underscores its commitment to fostering national unity and promoting progressive policies for the benefit of all Nigerians
