Butchers union demands revocation of newly registered parallel union

The National Union of Butchery Workers of Nigeria (NUBWN)/ National Butchers Union of Nigeria, has urged the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to revoke the registration of a newly formed parallel union to avoid internal conflicts among members.

Speaking at a national executive meeting in Benin City, Edo State, the union's National President, Chief John Osamede Adun, described the new "National Union of Butchery Employees of Nigeria" as illegal and called for immediate intervention by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi. 

Chief Adun emphasized the union's commitment to peace and urged caution to prevent a potential crisis.

National Secretary Ahmed Muhammed Borgu highlighted that the original union, registered in 1988, was disrupted by a faction forming the parallel union. 

He appealed to the ministry and judiciary to restore unity by revoking the registration of the newly formed body.

Court to Issue Bench Warrant Against Defendants in Suicide Case

A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City is set to issue a bench warrant against Jessica Iguodala Oghomwen and Akpes Omorodion, the first and second defendants in a case involving the alleged suicide of Mrs. Lilian Omokhuale, daughter of Omoruyi Oloton, Chief Executive Officer of Uyi Technical Limited. The incident occurred on October 7, 2022. Following a police investigation, several individuals were arrested and arraigned in the Federal High Court, Benin City. The case, marked FHC/B/5C/2004, has six defendants, including Chukwudi Mudiaga, Joy Noren, Vincent Uhunmwangho, and Blessing Jatto, listed as the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth defendants, respectively. CONUA lauds UNIBEN on payment of outstanding honorarium

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA), University of Benin (UNIBEN) chapter has applauded the steps put in place by the management of the University to offset the backlog of money owed academic staff of the University atbthe post-graduate level. The University management had assured the academics of plans to offset the #109 million in three tranches and commenced the payment with #50 million. A statement by the chapter chairman, Comrade Ishaq Osagie-Eweka indicated that "After due Consultation with the National Executive, CONUA, UNIBEN Chapter is pleased with management  understanding that the balance shall be offset within two months.
