Edo NUJ Chairman hails Governor Okpebholo for approving 13th month salary ... calls for workers' promotions
BENIN CITY - The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, has expressed gratitude to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for approving the payment of a 13th-month salary to workers in December 2024.
In a statement issued in Benin City, Dr. Alenkhe described the gesture as a significant relief for workers amid the current economic challenges. He noted that the move highlights Governor Okpebholo's commitment to the welfare of Edo State workers.
The NUJ Chairman also praised the state government for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage in the November salary, a policy initiated by the previous administration.
Dr. Alenkhe expressed optimism that the governor would continue to prioritize the interests of the workforce and pensioners in the state. He further called on the government to approve the long-overdue promotions for civil servants, urging workers to reciprocate the administration's goodwill by enhancing their productivity.
He wished the state government and its workforce a joyous and successful festive season.
