Contractors working hard to fix Ekpoma-Benin Road before christmas, says Gov Okpebholo
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that contractors working on the failed portion of the Obadan Junction road along the Benin-Ekpoma Expressway are striving to complete the project before Christmas.
The governor, who inspected the ongoing roadwork for the third time on Thursday evening since his inauguration on November 12, 2024, said the contractors are working tirelessly to ensure motorists can travel comfortably during the festive season.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver democratic dividends to the people of Edo State.
He disclosed plans to appeal to President Tinubu for a refund of the funds spent on the project upon its completion, highlighting the road's strategic importance as a gateway connecting the southern, eastern, and northern regions of Nigeria.
“Work is ongoing to fix the failed portion of this road at Obadan Junction, Benin-Auchi road. These contractors are working really hard—I doubt they even sleep,” the governor remarked. “We aim to complete this project before Christmas to ease travel challenges during this festive period.”
Governor Okpebholo emphasized the need for timely delivery of the project, adding, “This is a federal road, but our focus is to ensure it is motorable for everyone. If the road isn’t fixed, it’s the people who suffer. Once completed, we’ll seek a refund from the Federal Government.”
He further noted that rehabilitating the road would bolster the credibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, saying, “Nothing is wrong with fixing this road for our people. This effort underscores our commitment to good governance
