Take Responsibility for Poll Loss, LP tells Akpata

The Labour Party (LP) State Executive Committee, led by Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, has called on Barr. Olumide Akpata, the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the recently concluded Edo State Governorship Election to take full responsibility for his defeat at the polls.

In a press statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Airen Igbinedion, the party condemned Akpata's allegations of betrayal and vote-selling against the party’s agents and members.

The statement emphasized that these accusations are unfounded and disrespectful to the hardworking individuals who have remained loyal to the party.

The party clarified that the LP, under the leadership of Ativie, was not involved in managing polling unit agents for the election.

"It was Akpata himself who chose to entrust this responsibility to his personal associates, bypassing the party’s leadership."

The LP further revealed that after a controversy raised by Akpata, the party's National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure gave him (Akpata) full autonomy to manage the uploading of agents.

“The Labour Party remains proud of its members who upheld the principles of integrity and democracy throughout the election. We apologize to all committed Labour Party faithful for the unguarded statements made by Barrister Akpata, which may have caused disappointment among those who worked tirelessly for the party.”

The statement therefore by urged Akpata to take responsibility for his campaign’s failure, offering a sincere apology to the party and its loyal members.

It emphasized that the agents selected and uploaded by Akpata were responsible for any disloyalty, not the party’s official agents or its dedicated members.
