Edo Govt to Launch Supplemental Immunization Campaign in Oct
BY ANDY EGBON
The Edo State Government, through its Primary Health Care Development Agency, will begin a supplemental immunization campaign from October 5 to 13, 2024.
The campaign will take place across all the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state and aims to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly measles.
Children aged 9 months to 59 months (under 5 years old) will receive the measles vaccine during the exercise.
Measles, a highly contagious and life-threatening disease caused by the measles virus, primarily affects young children.
Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and small red spots in the mouth.
Without treatment, measles can lead to severe complications, such as diarrhea and pneumonia, which may result in death.
In addition to the measles vaccine, other routine childhood vaccines will be administered to children aged 0-23 months, and the HPV vaccine will be provided to girls aged 9-14 years to protect against cervical cancer.
Health workers will be stationed at Primary Health Care centres and other designated locations such as crèches, schools, churches, mosques, markets, and other public spaces to ensure that eligible children are reached.
The Edo State Government urges parents and guardians not to miss this opportunity to protect their children and wards against dangerous diseases.
All vaccines provided are free, safe, and effective.
