Senator Imasuen to Train, Empower 120 Farmers in Edo South, Expands Devt Initiatives
Senator Nelda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has announced plans to train and empower 120 farmers across the seven Local Government Areas in his constituency.
He made this disclosure during a visit to Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council in Benin City in the wake of the distribution of 12,000 cocoa seedlings and about 10,000 plantain suckers and pesticides tobthe farmers
Senator Imasuen emphasized that the program aims to boost farmers' economic livelihoods, enabling them to become self-sufficient and create jobs.
"We also have a lot of things in the pipeline," he said; we are training 10 tailors who have been taken to Abuja and provided with free accommodation for a period ranging from six months to one year."
" We want to teach them how to fish, not just give them fish, so they can become independent," he added
In addition to these initiatives, the Senator said he has installed several solar street lights across Local Government Areas within the Edo South Senatorial District.
Senator Imasuen noted that delays in some of the projects earmarked for his constituency were due to the late implementation of the 2024 budget and the slow release of funds.
Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence that contractors would be mobilized to complete most of the projects before the end of the year.
He also pledged to work closely with the Edo NUJ to ensure all projects receive adequate publicity and are properly monitored to maintain transparency and accountability.
Comrade Alenkhe, in response, assured the Senator that the NUJ's doors are always open to those committed to the state's development.
He praised Senator Imasuen's efforts, particularly his support for farmers, and encouraged the continued pursuit of the initiatives.
