Pyrates Confraternity Launches Environmental Sanitation Campaign in Irhirhi Community

The National Association of Seadogs (aka Pyrates Confraternity), Benbow Deck, recently embarked on an Environmental Sanitation Awareness Campaign in its host community of Irhirhi and surrounding areas, including Ebo and Aruogba communities.

The Second Mate of the deck, Mr. George Akpabor, stated that the exercise aimed to inculcate a culture of sanitation among the people and reawaken their consciousness regarding the need for routine sanitation in line with UN/EU Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

"Environmental sanitation designated days are largely ignored these days with little or no compliance," he noted.

This neglect, he explained, has allowed diseases such as schistosomiasis, trachoma, and soil-transmitted helminthiases to thrive in human-inhabited environments.

"There is an increasing national consciousness about the need for judicious management of the Nigerian environment in a sustainable manner. Ensuring improved environmental sanitation standards has become crucial in a developing country like Nigeria," Akpabor added.

"Specifically, Benbow Deck hopes to join hands in raising awareness on the critical need to embark on an environmental awareness campaign to sensitize the Benin populace on the need for routine and sustainable environmental sanitation practices," he concluded.
