Edo Guber Poll: PRP Candidate Visits Edo NUJ, Enlists Journalists' Support for Governorship Bid

In a significant move ahead of the September 21, 2024, Edo governorship election, Mrs. Patience Ndidi Ofure Key, the candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the only female contender in the race, paid a visit to the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council.
Accompanied by her deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Ojo Abuomwande Advise, and several party faithful, including members of her campaign team, Mrs. Key sought the support of journalists in her quest to become the next governor of Edo State.
During her visit, Mrs. Key highlighted her extensive experience in leadership roles and emphasized her commitment to developing Edo State into a model of progress and prosperity. She passionately spoke about her vision for the state, stating that her aspiration is driven by a genuine desire to improve the lives of every resident of Edo.
"We should look beyond gender and focus on who can do the work and develop Edo," she said. "Vote for the candidate who has the capability and the plan to transform our state."

Healthcare
Mrs. Key pledged to ensure access to quality healthcare and improve healthcare facilities and resources across the state. Drawing on her background in the healthcare sector as a US based health care professional, she emphasized the importance of supporting and empowering healthcare workers to deliver better services. Her plans include building new hospitals, upgrading existing ones, and providing state-of-the-art medical equipment. She also promised to implement comprehensive health insurance schemes to make healthcare affordable for all residents.
Education
Mrs. Key plans to revitalize the educational sector by improving the quality of education at all levels. She aims to provide free and compulsory primary and secondary education, upgrade school infrastructure, and ensure continuous professional development for teachers. Additionally, she intends to introduce vocational training programs to equip youths with practical skills needed in the job market.
Infrastructure
In her manifesto, Mrs. Key detailed plans to develop and modernize the state's infrastructure. This includes constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, and public transportation systems to enhance connectivity and economic growth. Understanding the critical roles women and youth play in society, Mrs. Key promised to introduce policies that promote gender equality and provide opportunities for youth engagement. She plans to launch programs that support female entrepreneurs and create platforms for youth participation in governance and decision-making processes.
