Digital tech dominates Edo global space - Commissioner
The Edo State Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Engr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor has said that digital technology is taking over the global space in Edo, courtesy of the state government and private initiatives.
This is coming as the State Head of Service and an alumnus of the Baptist High School (BHS), Benin City, Barr. Anthony Okungbowa instituted a 5-year scholarship for the best science student of the school and #250,000 for the best student in history for the next five years.
In his address during the commissioning ceremony of an ultra-modern Technology Laboratory donated to the school, by the Baptist High School Old Students Association (BHOSA), Ifaluyi-Isibor expressed the state government readiness to partner with the school so that teachers could be deployed to advance teaching on technology in the school.
He noted that in modern times, emphasis is on knowledge on digital technology rather than areas of specialisation.
The facilitator of the technology laboratory, Mr Samson Koyonda said that the project which cost about #25million was his own way of giving back to his alma mater because he is conscious that education is important for the development of any society.
He disclosed that the gesture was aimed at ensuring that the school produces some of the best and brightest scientists in the country who would inspire others to do the nation proud
The President of BHOSA Worldwide, Mr Innocent Ekuase in his remarks commended Koyonda for helping to sustain the philosophy of BHOSA, including giving back to the alma mata so as to enhance learning and sustain the culture of integrity, discipline and excellence which BHS is noted for.
While promising BHOSA's sustainance of the culture of support to the school, Ekuase disclosed that the technology laboratory, with over 20 desk top computers and alternative power supply has five years subscription for internet services.
