The member representing Etsako Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Sunday Dekeri Anamero (aka DANCO) was in tears at plenary on Wednesday October, 25, 2023 after the House of Representatives stepped down his pro-masses motion urging Federal Government to make the West Africa Examination Certificate (WAEC), National Examination Certificate (NECO) and Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) enrollment free for Nigerian students as subsidy palliative for low income earners.
In his prayers, Dekeri urged the Ministry of Education to declare 2023 and 2024 WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations registration free, saying that it would serve as palliative to poor Nigerians.
He also urged the Federal Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning to come up with a robust framework that would give the poor people a sense of belonging in Nigeria
He also prayed the House to consider education as a vital tool for national development and human capacity building, adding that the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government had negatively impacted on most Nigerians, particularly the low-income earners.
According to him, profiteers were taking undue advantage of the situation by increasing the cost of essential commodities, thereby further pauperising the people.
He said that one of the major challenges of the low-income earning parents was the education of their children and wards, particularly in the area of payment of examination fees.
With the cooperation of the masses, he said that the Federal Government was able to deliver Nigerians from a few individuals that took the nation’s economy hostage through the fuel subsidy payment which serves as conduit pipe for plundering Nigeria's economy.
"As a result of the removal of fuel subsidy, the government would have saved approximately #I7billion daily from a few cartels that had sucked the poor masses.
