HPV vaccination to hold in Edo, others 1st Qt 2024

BENIN CITY - The vaccination of girls between ages 9 and 14 years old against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is to commence in Edo State in the first quarter of 2024, according to a statement by  Mrs Irene Uabor, the Head, Health Education Unit, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA).

The statement indicated that the EDSPHCDA has commenced sensitisation of the people in the state, with a view to creating awareness on the vaccine roll-out.

According to the statement, sixteen states will participate in the first phase of the vaccination exercise which begins on Tuesday October 24, 2023.

The statement added that Edo State is among the 21 states earmarked for the second phase of the HPV vaccination in the 36 states of Nigeria, including Abuja.

Meanwhile, the second round of the oral polio vaccination will hold in Edo State from November 11 - 14, 2023

Healthcare workers are expected to move from house to house to administer two drops of the novel Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to children of 0 - 59months to help prevent variant polio virus that could cause poliomyelitis. 

Caregivers were advised not to listen to hearsay and disinformation about the vaccines, but to ensure that eligible children in the age bracket participate in the forthcoming vaccinations which will be administered free to all
