BENIN CITY - As part of efforts to give back to society and boost education in Edo State, the Anamero Foundation has donated notebooks worth over #200 million to schools across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.
Speak at the presentation ceremony in Benin City, the founder of the foundation and member representing Etsako Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Dekeri Anamero said that the books were part of his Corporate Social Responsibility to boost education in the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State
He said that the initiative is to sow into the minds of the people as a way of building better citizens that would translate to a better society.
According to him, "This foundation was set up officially in 2011 to give back to the society and what we are doing is to bridge the gap between the government and those that are deprived.
"Besides, this is part of the values my father imparted in me to do these things for those that are truly in need.
"I have been giving primary and secondary schools writing materials, building class rooms and paying enrollment fees of students for West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) examinations.
"The more I do this (empowerment), the more I gain internal satisfaction. I don't want to amass heaven and Earth to myself for me to maintain comfort,” he said.
Flagging off the distribution, Chairman of the Books Distribution Committee, Barr. Gentleman Amegor, commended the donor for the gesture.
Amegor also commended the Edo State government for granting approval for the distribution of the notebooks to the benefitting schools.
He however urged those charge with the distribution to the various local government areas to be diligent so as to ensure that the books get to the targeted beneficiaries.
