IDPs Camp in Edo produces 80 University graduates - Coordinator

The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ohogua, Edo State has produced 18 University graduates, including a First Class graduate and the best graduating student in the Faculty of Law, Edo State Univerty, Uzairue in the 2022/2023 academic year
The figure is part of the over 80 IDPs in the camp who have so far graduated since the camp was set up in 1992.
The camp was set up in the International Christian Centre, Ohogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State by Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, the Coordinator of the Home for the Needy Foundation.
The foundation is non-religious organisation committed to the provision of shelter, health education and other welfare programmes for internally displaced persons across the country.
At a press conference in Ohogua, Pastor Folorunsho said that students spread across various Universities in the country.
He said that the foundation is presently processing University admission for over 150 camp inmates, while over 200 are students in different Universities across the country.
The widows and those who are not too educationally inclined, he said are provided with skills that could make them more relevant in the society
He said that the press conference was informed by the need to showcase the activities of the centre to the outside world, as well as inspire others to have a positive outlook towards life, despite obvious challenges
According to him, the centre funds the educational needs of the students through donations and support from various sources, especially Edo State and Federal government.
Presently, he said the foundation has over 2,900 students and pupils in the primary and secondary schools located within the IDPs camp, while over the 3,000 inmates living in the camp depend on the foundation for their upkeep, including their educational needs.
He therefore pleaded for the support of the government, internal donors, individuals and corporate organisations for the foundation to sustain its humanitarianbworks
