FUGAR - The Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Solomon Obomighie has alerted communities in the riverine areas of imminent flooding.

He therefore advised the residents to take precautionary measures to minimize the effect of the flooding occasioned by incessant down pour in the area.

Speaking during an advocacy campaign to sensitize residents of the communities of the impending flooding and the need to relocate to safer locations,
he said the recent rise in water levels and weather patterns have significantly increased the risk associated with the flooding.

According to the local government chairman, "The primary objective of this sensitization campaign is to inform and educate the residents in these communities about the potential risks that could be associated with the imminent flood within the next couple of weeks."

He however urged the residents to remain vigilant and responsive to the State Government advice and directives, emphasizing on the importance of community support and cooperation during such challenging times.

While calling on the community leaders and other stakeholders to work together in implementing preventive measures and providing assistance to the needy, he
reiterated the State Government commitment through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to monitor the weather situation in order to take proactive steps.

Some of the communities in the local government area vulnerable to flooding include, Udaba, Osomegbe, Ufukpo and Anegbette.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government through NEMA had earlier announced 14 states and 31 communities that may be affected by the heavy downpour which would lead to the flooding.
