CONUA faults UNIBEN for shifting exam date

The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) is a secession of Academic Staff Union of Universities (CONUA) has faulted the management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) for calling off examinations scheduled for September 5 and 6, 2023 on the assumption that all the academic unions of the University are on strike in line with the directive of the Nigeria Labour Labour Congress (NLC).

In a statement by the CONUA Chairperson, Comrade Ishaq Osagie-Eweka, the union noted that CONUA members were not part of the strike, neither was CONUA in solidarity with NLC on the strike.

The statement urged the University's management to "consider the position of CONUA at all times in disputed situations like this in the future."

According to the statement, "it's improper for the management of the University of Benin to call-off exams scheduled for *5th & 6th September 2023* on the assumption that all academic unions of universities are affiliates of NLC.

"In as much as we (CONUA) understand that the policies of Government in recent time, particularly the removal of PMS subsidy is biting hard on the poorly remunerated Nigerians, University teachers, we must also take into cognizance that Universities in Nigeria are sessions behind; we all (management, students and academic staff unions) have an understanding to bridge this shortfall for the benefit of the students and the system," the statement added
