Comrade Omuokhonlen Emerges JCC Chairman in Edo

The National Association of the Nigerian Students (NANs), Edo State Chapter, has elected Comrade Ehi Daniel Omuokhonlen as the Chairman of Joint Campus Council (JCC) in Edo

 He is to pilot the affairs of JCC for the next one year.

Announcing the result of the election in Benin City, the Chairman of the Convention Committee for NANS Election, Comrade Salami David disclosed that, prior to the election, the committee subjected the aspirants to a screening exercise because of the recent cult related killings in Edo state. 

He urged the newly elected students to work according to the constitution of the students body.

He said," we use various parameters to access the students that will be vying for the election; we also ensured that they were  eligible students of their various institutions of higher learning in Edo state.

"We also ensured that the students provided a sworn affidavit of not being a member of secret cult groups because we know the high rate of cult related killings in Edo state at present. 

"We are trying to ensure that our new generation of leaders are not members of secret cult groups. If there is any one that is cultist among them, such person will be screened out.

" We also ensure they are financial members of  the association. Hence, their selection, come appointment and their final declaration as elected officers," Comrade Salami David stressed.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman of JCC, Comrade Ehis Daniel Omuokhonlen, pledged to support the students and the Nigerian youths.

He said that his Executive would ensure that the welfare of all the students would receive priority attention.

Assuring the students of greater sense of belonging, he said that," I am so glad and happy for being elected as the JCC Chairman UNIBEN branch.

"I will say with all the powers vested in me and by the grace of God, my executive will  do our possible best to play a major role to transform the body in Edo state.

"We will ensure that the welfare of all students will be the first priority. We assure you that the students and youths will get every single right to have a voice in their affairs

"We assure you that we will stand all our ground to defend the defenceless and be the voice for the voiceless. This is the time in Nigeria  for the students and youths to get what is due to them.

"Also education is the right for every  Nigerians, not a privilege. We are here to stand together in unity to harmonize together and to make sure the Nigerian youths and students are in the best positions in the country," Omuokhonlen added.

Speaking after the announcement of the election result, the UNBEN SUG President, Comrade Nmoye Israel, urged the newly elected Chairman of JCC, Comrade Ehis Daniel Omuokhonlen to show good examples during NANs activities.

Comrade Nmoye Israel said," as the host of Student Union Government (SUG),  President of the University of Benin, I am well pleased with the way the election ended. 

"Today, by the God's grace, we have elected people that will represent NANs in Edo state, that is the Joint Campus Council Houses (JCC).

"I have told them in my opening speech that election is not a do or die affair. And we have elected them. 

"Also, they are going to represent the interest of the students in NANs affairs. I must commend the UNIBEN, the CPC and thank the new Chairman of JCC, Comrade Ehis Daniel; I urge him to show a good example in the affairs of NANs."

The Joint Campus Council (JCC) in Edo state is made up of 18 student officers. 

The student executive is made up of JCC drawn from the various Universities and Polytechnics in Edo state.
