CONUA lauds UNIBEN on payment of outstanding honorarium



The Congress of University Academics (CONUA), University of Benin (UNIBEN) chapter has applauded the steps put in place by the management of the University to offset the backlog of money owed academic staff of the University atbthe post-graduate level.

The University management had assured the academics of plans to offset the #109 million in three tranches and commenced the payment with #50 million.

A statement by the chapter chairman, Comrade Ishaq Osagie-Eweka indicated that "After due Consultation with the National Executive, CONUA, UNIBEN Chapter is pleased with management  understanding that the balance shall be offset within two months.

"Against this backdrop, lecturers are therefore encouraged to continue Post-Graduate teachings, seminars and research supervision, while we engage management and await the payment of the balance within the agreed time frame while we engage management and await the payment of the balance within the agreed time frame.

"The public and prospective post-graduate students are to note that the University of Benin Post-graduate programs are in place.

"As a union of civilized and responsible academics, we must demonstrate that we are partners in progress to ensure uninterrupted academic calendar and promote peaceful industrial harmony between management and academics.
